Background: Remotely delivered lifestyle interventions have emerged to increase the reach and accessibility of traditional interventions that involve numerous in-person visits. Remote interventions can be delivered synchronously via videoconference software or phone or asynchronously via online platforms. Asynchronously delivered interventions are convenient and flexible in that they allow people to participate at any time and as such, they may be more sustainable.

The spread of metastases is a crucial process in which some questions remain unanswered. In this work, we focus on tumor cells circulating in the bloodstream, the so-called Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs). Our aim is to characterize their trajectories under the influence of hemodynamic and adhesion forces.

Lanthanide nanoparticles (LnNPs) feature sharp emission lines together with millisecond emission lifetimes which make them promising luminescent probes for biosensing and bioimaging. Although LnNPs are attracting much interest, their photoluminescence properties at the single nanoparticle level remain largely unexplored. Here, we employ fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and photoluminescence burst analysis to investigate the photodynamics of Sm- and Eu-based LnNPs with single nanoparticle sensitivity and microsecond resolution.

The mobility and bioavailability of metal contaminants such as lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) is impacted by their interactions with other sediment constituents such as iron (Fe), sulfur (S), and organic matter, which depend on sediment redox conditions. Understanding the role that water level fluctuations have on redox conditions and subsequent impacts on metal mobility is critical for predicting impacts of increased wetting and drying cycles resulting from climate-related changes or management actions. This study measured the sediment-porewater partitioning of Pb and Zn in the Coeur d'Alene River basin downstream of the Bunker Hill Superfund Site under both flooded and seasonally dry conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) often arises after tibial pilon fractures, leading surgeons to prioritize precise articular reduction, which can extend surgery time.
  • A cadaveric study explored how the stiffness of custom dynamic orthoses (CDOs) affects ankle joint reaction force (JRF) and contact stress during the stance phase of walking.
  • Results showed that using CDOs reduced JRF by up to 32%, indicating that post-operative bracing could lower the risk of developing PTOA after such fractures.
