The cellular level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has to be controlled to avoid some pathologies, especially those linked to oxidative stress. One strategy for designing antioxidants consists of modeling natural enzymes involved in ROS degradation. Among them, nickel superoxide dismutase (NiSOD) catalyzes the dismutation of the superoxide radical anion, O, into O and HO.

Mitochondrial complex I (CI) plays a crucial role in oxidising NADH generated by the metabolism (including photorespiration) and thereby participates in the mitochondrial electron transfer chain feeding oxidative phosphorylation that generates ATP. However, CI mutations are not lethal in plants and cause moderate phenotypes, and therefore CI mutants are instrumental to examine consequences of mitochondrial homeostasis disturbance on plant cell metabolisms and signalling. To date, the consequences of CI disruption on the lipidome have not been examined.

The combination of NiX salts with a bipyridine-type ligand and aromatic carbonyl-based chromophores has emerged as a benchmark precatalytic system to efficiently conduct cross-couplings mediated by light. Mechanistic studies have led to two scenarios in which Ni is proposed as the catalytic species. Nonetheless, in none of these studies has a Ni to Ni photoreduction been evidenced.

Isotopic analyses of plant samples are now of considerable importance for food certification and plant physiology. In fact, the natural nitrogen isotope composition (δN) is extremely useful to examine metabolic pathways of N nutrition involving isotope fractionations. However, δN analysis of amino acids is not straightforward and involves specific derivatization procedures to yield volatile derivatives that can be analysed by gas chromatography coupled to isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC-C-IRMS).
