Purpose: Treatment of localized neuropathic pain continues to represent an unmet need. The primary objective of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of cryotherapy to reduce the burning pain induced by capsaicin (8%) patches (QUTENZA) in a neuropathic pain cohort. We also investigated subsequent neuropathic pain during an 8-week follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared dinoprostone vaginal insert (PG) and cervical ripening balloon (CRB) for cervical ripening in women at term with an unfavorable cervix after initial PG treatment.
  • A total of 180 women were assessed, revealing that 93.3% achieved a favorable cervix or entered labor within 24 hours after the second device, with CRB showing a significantly higher success rate than repeated PG.
  • While vaginal delivery rates and neonatal morbidity were similar between the two groups, CRB was more effective in improving cervix status compared to repeated PG in the study population.

Barium is present within the clay-derived therapeutic mud packs deposed on the patient's skin for treating some rheumatologic conditions. We studied in twenty-four young healthy volunteers the diffusion of Ba from mud wrapped in micro-perforated polyethylene bags and soaked in mineral water. No significant systematic increase in plasma or urine Ba levels was evidenced when comparing pre- and post-treatment samples using inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the anatomical presentation and severity of colonic diverticulosis between African Caribbeans (AC) and Europeans (E) in a controlled study involving 274 patients with lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage in France.
  • Results showed that AC patients had consistently poorer hemodynamic conditions and required more blood transfusions compared to E patients, with AC exhibiting a higher prevalence of pancolonic diverticulosis while E had left-sided diverticulosis.
  • The findings suggest that genetic factors may play a larger role in the anatomical differences observed in diverticulosis between the two groups, rather than environmental influences or dietary habits.

Since its discovery, the concept of vaccination has continued to improve in order to offer better efficacy and tolerance. Local or even diffuse reactions are often reported, but no study reports results on the injection side. We carried out a prospective observational study on the COVID-19 vaccination centers of the Landes regional hospital consortium (GHT) over three weeks.
