Purpose: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an imaging technique, first developed for use during oral and pre-implant surgery. In sinonasal surgery, CBCT might represent a valuable tool for anatomical research given its high spatial resolution and low irradiation dose. However, clinical and anatomical evidence pertaining to its efficacy is lacking.

Objectives: Complications of pharyngitis (peritonsillar abscess, retropharyngeal abscess, and cervical cellulitis) are rare, but appear to be on the increase over recent years and many of these patients have been treated by anti-inflammatory drugs prior to admission. The purpose of this study was to review the current epidemiological data concerning these complications and investigate a possible correlation with anti-inflammatory drug use.

Material And Methods: A single-centre retrospective review of epidemiological, clinical and microbiological data was performed on the medical charts of patients hospitalised for peritonsillar abscess, retropharyngeal abscess or cervical cellulitis between 2005 and 2010.

Conclusion: High-resolution computed tomography (CT) scan may reveal an isolated fenestral form of otosclerosis, and an extensive form, which involves multiple foci around the otic capsule. Pre- and postoperative hearing thresholds are poorer in patients with extensive otosclerosis and their chance of overclosure is reduced by 90%.

Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between CT scan extension of otosclerotic foci and hearing thresholds in the operated ear, before and after stapedotomy.
