Enteral vasopressor therapies have been used to facilitate the weaning of intravenous (IV) vasopressors in critically ill patients. Studies have shown mixed results in the medically critically ill population; however, this practice is still common. The use of enteral vasopressors in the acute traumatic spinal cord injury is less well-described.

The use of weight-based unfractionated heparin (UFH) infusions is the standard of care in hospital management of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Initial dosing strategies for UFH in older adults and higher body weight patients remain uncertain given differences in pharmacokinetics and concerns for over-anticoagulation. Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective, pre-post study involving older adults aged ≥ 65 years and patients weighing ≥ 100 kg with suspected or confirmed VTE to determine if the use of adjusted body weight (AdjBW)-based UFH regimens improves time to therapeutic anti-Xa levels compared to total body weight (TBW)-based regimens Patients received weight-based UFH infusions, dosed according to either TBW or AdjBW, to target a therapeutic anti-Xa level.

Background: Anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction, with presentations to emergency departments (EDs) increasing across Australia. Understanding the features of those presenting with anaphylaxis and aspects related to its optimal clinical management across the admission, treatment and discharge settings is needed to minimise its impact. We aimed to evaluate the nature and management of presentations related to anaphylaxis across two Australian EDs.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe the impact of enteral glyburide on cerebral edema formation and hypoglycemia when used to treat patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).

Methods: This study was a single-center, retrospective medical record review that included all patients aged ≥18 years diagnosed with AIS who received ≥1 dose of enteral glyburide for the prevention of cerebral edema from January 1, 2018 to March 31, 2022. The primary outcome was the percentage of patients requiring intervention for cerebral edema management after glyburide initiation, and the safety outcome was the occurrence of hypoglycemia in this patient population.

Objective: To assess the impact of student pharmacist state anxiety on vasopressor calculation accuracy in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) simulations.

Methods: Third-year professional students participated in 2 ACLS-related simulation laboratory sessions. In week 1, students completed 3 calculations at their workstation with no stressors.
