We have previously shown that high-dose vitamin D improved weight gain and neurodevelopmental indices in children receiving standard therapy for uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Here we present results of a randomised placebo-controlled trial in Lahore, Pakistan, to determine whether two oral doses of 200,000 international units (IU) vitamin D (the first administered on or before the day of hospital discharge and the second administered 14 days later) would benefit children aged 6-59 months during the convalescent phase of complicated SAM. Eligible participants were individually randomised to intervention vs.

Background: In 2021, WHO recommended dapivirine vaginal rings (DVRs) for HIV prevention, but noted evidence gaps for breastfeeding populations. This trial aimed to describe safety profiles associated with DVRs and oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use during breastfeeding and to summarise study-drug quantification and concentrations for mothers and infants.

Methods: Microbicide Trials Network (MTN)-043 was a phase 3b, open-label, randomised trial in which mother-infant pairs were recruited from local health facilities and enrolled at four HIV clinical trial sites in Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Purpose: This study investigated the effect of multiple magnetic resonance (MR) sequences on the quality of deep-learning-based synthetic computed tomography (sCT) generation in the head and neck region.

Materials And Methods: 12 MR series (T1pre-, T1post-contrast, T2 each with 4 Dixon images) were collected from 26 patients with head and neck cancers. 14 unique deep-learning models using the U-Net framework were trained using multiple MRs as inputs to generate sCTs.

This phase 3 multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trial evaluated investigational cellular product (MDR-101) to produce immune tolerance vs standard of care, in kidney transplant recipients. Adult recipients of kidneys from 2-haplotype human leukocyte antigen-matched living siblings were randomized 2:1 to treatment (n = 20) or control (n = 10). The MDR-101 product was from the same kidney donor.

The poor management of public health risks associated with travel by most countries proved among the most contentious issue areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Evidence from previous outbreaks suggested travel restrictions were largely unnecessary and counterproductive to timely reporting. This led to initial WHO recommendations against the use of travel restrictions.
