The goal of the present study was to determine whether peptidylarginine deiminase PAD2 and PAD4 enzymes are present in mouse salivary glands and whether they are able to citrullinate Ro and La ribonucleoproteins. Salivary glands from mice were cultured in DMEM and supplemented with one of the following stimulants: ATP, LPS, TNF, IFN, or IL-6. A control group without stimulant was also evaluated.

Prognostic Factors for Permanent Work Disability in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis Who Received Combination Therapy of Conventional Synthetic Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: There is limited information about the factors related with the development of long-term permanent work disability (PWD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with a combination of conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (cs-DMARDs).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate incidence and factors associated with the development of PWD in RA treated with combination therapy using conventional synthetic cs-DMARDs.

Methods: We assessed in multivariate models the effect of clinical and demographic factors in the development of PWD in a long-term retrospective cohort of 180 workers with RA who were treated with a combination of cs-DMARDs.

The objective of this study was to investigate the usefulness of soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) in predicting short-term therapeutic response to methotrexate (MTX) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Patients with active RA, with Disease Activity Score-28 joints (DAS-28) >3.2, starting oral MTX, were included.

Osteoporosis (OP) is highly prevalent in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is influenced by genetic factors. Single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2073618 in the osteoprotegerin () gene has been related to postmenopausal OP although, to date, no information has been described concerning whether this polymorphism is implied in abnormalities of bone mineral density (BMD) in RA. We evaluated, in a case-control study performed in Mexican-Mestizo women with RA, whether SNP rs2073618 in the gene is associated with a decrease in BMD.

Serum levels of P-glycoprotein and persistence of disease activity despite treatment in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Around 25% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) could be refractory to conventional therapies. P-glycoprotein expression on cell surface has been implied on drug resistance, however, to date, it is unknown if P-gp serum levels are associated with SLE disease activity. Evaluate the association of serum P-gp levels and SLE with disease activity despite treatment.
