The autosomal recessive disease ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) presents with cerebellar degeneration, immunodeficiency, radiosensitivity, capillary dilatations, and pulmonary infections. Most symptoms outside the nervous system can be explained by failures of the disease protein ATM as a Ser/Thr-kinase to coordinate DNA damage repair. However, ATM in adult neurons has cytoplasmic localization and vesicle association, where its roles remain unclear.

Macrophage membrane coated discoidal polymeric particles for evading phagocytosis.

Unlabelled: The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of discoidal polymeric particles (DPPs) coated with macrophage membranes as a novel drug delivery system. The study aimed to determine whether these coated particles could reduce phagocytosis, and target specific organs, thereby enhancing drug delivery efficacy. In this study, discoidal polymeric particles (DPPs) were synthesized by a top-down fabrication method serving as the core drug delivery platform.

Equity and Inclusion for LGBTQ+ Residents: Lessons Learned from the Initial Long-Term Care Equality Index (LEI).

Objectives: Most older adults with lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, questioning, transgender, and related identities (LGBTQ+) are concerned about receiving lower-quality care and/or being mistreated in nursing homes. Older LGBTQ+ veterans may have additional reservations about care in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) nursing homes (Community Living Centers [CLCs]) because of experience with past discriminatory military policies (eg, bans on participating in military service, Don't Ask Don't Tell). This article describes one of the first VA CLCs to participate in the Human Rights Campaign-developed Long-Term Care Equality Index (LEI).

Preclinical 3D model screening reveals digoxin as an effective therapy for a rare and aggressive type of endometrial cancer.

Objective: Dedifferentiated endometrial carcinoma (DDEC) characterized by SWItch/Sucrose Non-Fermentable (SWI/SNF) complex inactivation is a highly aggressive type of endometrial cancer without effective systemic therapy options. Its uncommon nature and aggressive disease trajectory pose significant challenges for therapeutic progress. To address this obstacle, we focused on developing preclinical models tailored to this tumor type and established patient tumor-derived three-dimensional (3D) spheroid models of DDEC.
