The presence of bony-appearing fragments and calcifications appearing superficially in a chronic, nonhealing wound raises suspicion for osteomyelitis. When radiological imaging and tissue biopsy of the lesion return negative for osteomyelitis, however, the differentials must be widened to successfully manage and heal a chronic wound. In this report, we discuss a case of an 80-year-old morbidly obese woman with a history of chronic venous insufficiency, hereditary hemochromatosis, and squamous cell carcinoma who presented to the wound clinic with a 5-month history of a nonhealing wound with bony-appearing fragments and calcifications on her left anterior leg status postbiopsy during routine skin examination.

Differentiating PIs from conditions of similar appearance is imperative to minimising complications and implementing prompt treatment. The risk of the disease continues to rise annually with an estimated 50-200% increase in incidence within the last three decades. Although cSCC is one of the most common skin cancers, reported having 1 million cases per year in the United States, there is inconsistency with its reported metastatic rate.

Vaping (inhalation of electronic cigarette-generated aerosol) is a public health concern. Due to recent spikes in adolescent use of electronic cigarettes (ECIGs) and vaping-induced illnesses, demand for scientific inquiry into the physiological effects of electronic cigarette (ECIG) aerosol has increased. For such studies, standardized and consistent aerosol production is required.

Although anti-D as a source of HDFN has been prevented for decades using D-specific immunoglobulin to prevent alloimmunization between fetus and mother, minor blood groups may still result in disease, with potentially disastrous consequences if left untreated. Strategies such as intrauterine transfusion, early delivery, and vigilant serologic monitoring of fetal anemia have been the standards of care for alloimmunized patients, but beyond this not much more is possible.
