Impact of migration on new case detection rates in leprosy in Gudiyatham Taluk, Tamil Nadu, India.

Migration of persons affected by leprosy was hinted at as early as 1929 (Bhaskara Rao 1930). All new cases of leprosy in Isfahan Province (Iran) were found to be migrants (Asilian et al 2005). Chudasama (2007) suspected increase in leprosy cases in Surat district to migration.

B cell receptor signaling down-regulates forkhead box transcription factor class O 1 mRNA expression via phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and Bruton's tyrosine kinase.

BCR cross-linking promotes mature B cell proliferation and survival. PI3K-mediated down-regulation of proapoptotic and antimitogenic genes such as forkhead box transcription factor class O 1 (FOXO1) is an important component of this process. Previously, BCR-induced phosphorylation of FOXO1 was shown to lead to a block in nuclear localization and subsequent protein degradation.

Origin of new leprosy cases during general surveys in relation to previous survey findings.

As part of the leprosy control activities in the area of Gudiyatham Thaluk, general surveys are done once every three to five years. The percentage of examination is about 90%. An analysis of all new cases registered for treatment between 1990-94 was done to study whether these cases had been examined in the previous general survey.
