There are limited data demonstrating the association of sex with different risks for complications following upper and lower total joint arthroplasty. Therefore, this study set out to determine whether biological sex is associated with different outcomes following primary total shoulder arthroplasty. The Mariner claims database was used to identify patients who underwent primary total joint arthroplasty (TSA) for the treatment of glenohumeral osteoarthritis (OA) between 2005 and 2017.

Purpose: Using the area deprivation index (ADI), a validated, weighted index of material deprivation and poverty (a 0%-to-100% scale, with higher percentages indicating greater disadvantage), we sought to evaluate whether there are associations in shoulder arthroplasty patients between higher ADI and rates of (1) medical complications, (2) emergency department (ED) utilizations, (3) readmissions, and (4) costs.
Methods: We queried the PearlDiver nationwide database for patients who had undergone primary shoulder arthroplasty from 2010 to 2020.
Recent research efforts have focused on the complications and outcomes associated with opioid use disorder (OUD). However, there is a lack of evidence on the associated risks respective to each primary shoulder arthroplasty procedure. After separating patients by total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) and matching to controls, our study demonstrated significant association with longer LOS in both groups, higher risk of SSI and PJI in the TSA group, PJI in the RSA group, and higher costs regardless of procedure.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the utility of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot, in providing patient information for lumbar spinal fusion and lumbar laminectomy in comparison with the Google search engine.
Summary Of Background Data: ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot with seemingly unlimited functionality, may present an alternative to a Google web search for patients seeking information about medical questions.
