Chemical characterization and pharmacological properties of polysaccharides from Allium roseum leaves: In vitro and in vivo assays.

Allium roseum is amongst the most important wild medicinal plants. It is known for its diverse biological properties, including antioxidant, antibacterial and antidiabetic activities. In this work, the polysaccharides (PARLs) were ultrasonically extracted from Allium roesum leaves then purified and analyzed by several techniques.

Diagnostic low-dose X-ray radiation induces fluoroquinolone resistance in pathogenic bacteria.

Purpose: The crisis of antibiotic resistance has been attributed to the overuse or misuse of these medications. However, exposure of bacteria to physical stresses such as X-ray radiation, can also lead to the development of resistance to antibiotics. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of exposure to diagnostic low-dose X-ray radiation on the bacterial response to antibiotics in two pathogenic bacteria, including the Gram-positive and Gram-negative .

Thalidomide-induced bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia in a patient with multiple myeloma.

Thalidomide, which is an angiogenesis inhibitor and immunomodulator that reduces tumor necrosis factor-alpha, has regained value in the treatment of multiple myeloma. Serious pulmonary complications due to thalidomide use remain relatively uncommon. We describe a case of bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) due to thalidomide.

Prediction equations for spirometry in healthy children from Djibouti.

Objective: To determine normal spirometric values in Djiboutian children and to compare these data with values reported by African studies and by the 2012 Global Lung Function Initiative.

Methods: Spirometric data from healthy Djiboutian children were collected and reference equations derived using the least mean squared method, which includes modelling skewness (λ, L), mean (μ, M) and coefficient of variation (σ, S) according to sex, age and height. In addition, the age-dependent lower limits of normal were calculated.

[Assessment of insomnia among Tunisian patients with lung cancer].

Introduction: Sleep disorders are relatively common in oncology. However, they have not been well studied and are often treated insufficiently.

Aim: To assess the prevalence and severity of insomnia in lung cancer patients and evaluate the relationship between insomnia and certain clinical parameters.
