Investigating Fire-Atmosphere Interaction in a Forest Canopy Using Wavelets.

Wildland fire-atmosphere interaction generates complex turbulence patterns, organized across multiple scales, which inform fire-spread behaviour, firebrand transport, and smoke dispersion. Here, we utilize wavelet-based techniques to explore the characteristic temporal scales associated with coherent patterns in the measured temperature and the turbulent fluxes during a prescribed wind-driven (heading) surface fire beneath a forest canopy. We use temperature and velocity measurements from tower-mounted sonic anemometers at multiple heights.

Pediatric ventilation outside the operating room.

Various ventilatory techniques have been developed in recent years to treat severe respiratory disease states in the pediatric population. Techniques and strategies involving the use of conventional ventilation, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, partial liquid ventilation, and extracorporeal circulation are discussed.

Pediatric resuscitation outside the operating room.

Protocols regarding the treatment of cardiac arrest of the pediatric patient outside the operating room are continually being reviewed as knowledge regarding the pathophysiology of cardiac arrest and the pharmacologic properties of resuscitative drugs has progressed. The indications for treatment of cardiac arrest by the various resuscitative drugs, and techniques for obtaining access for the administration of these drugs are discussed.

Primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the myocardium: a case report, review of the literature, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural study.

We report the case of a primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) arising in the heart of a 63-year-old man. The neuroectodermal nature of this tumor was confirmed by the immunohistochemical positivity for O13 (CD99) (the P30/32MIC2 gene product) neuron specific enolase (monoclonal and polyclonal), synaptophysin and vimentin. Other markers, such as actin, desmin, myoglobin, chromogranin, keratin, and leukocyte common antigen were negative.
