The ICN Leadership For Change™ Programme--20 years of growing influence.

Aim: The aim of this article was to present experiences from the field in the context of the International Council of Nurses' Leadership for Change™ programme, which celebrates 20 years of excellence in 2016 for developing the leadership and management capacity of nurses worldwide.

Background: The programme was launched in 1996 in order to boost nurse participation in the healthcare policy-making process, globally, and to foster within the nursing profession the requisite skills for nurses to lobby for and assume a greater responsibility in the leadership and management of health care services.

Introduction: Over the course of two decades, the programme has been implemented in cooperation between ICN, national nurses associations, the World Health Organization, Ministries of Health and a variety of donor organizations such as the W.

Seeking health care through international medical tourism.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was the exploration of international travel experiences for the purpose of medical or dental care from the perspective of patients from Alaska and to develop insight and understanding of the essence of the phenomenon of medical tourism.

Study Design And Methods: The study is conceptually oriented within a model of health-seeking behavior. Using a qualitative design, 15 Alaska medical tourists were individually interviewed.

American Indian internet cigarette sales: another avenue for selling tobacco products.

A study conducted by the University of Minnesota found that cigarettes can be purchased on American Indian-owned Internet sites for about one fifth of the price at grocery stores, making this a more convenient, lower-priced, and appealing method of purchasing cigarettes. Researchers and educators are challenged to address this new marketing ploy and to discover ways to curb rising smoking rates in American Indian communities.

Barriers to increasing native Hawaiian, Samoan, and Filipino nursing students: perceptions of students and their families.

This article presents the results of an innovative approach to increase the numbers of native Hawaiian, Samoan, and Filipino students who enroll in and complete the bachelor of nursing in science degree. The approach used 2 methods to obtain input. The first was a series of focus groups comprising current and potential students in the nursing program.

Characteristics of American Indian women cigarette smokers: prevalence and cessation status.

A high rate of cigarette smoking is documented among the American Indian population in California, but data on Indian women smokers have not been widely studied. This paper reports on a survey conducted in a smoking cessation project implemented and evaluated as part of a National Cancer Institute (NCI) cooperative agreement. Characteristics of Indian women smokers are presented and cessation status is examined.
