Thoracic aortic aneurysm complicated by secondary aortoesophageal fistula after thoracic endovascular aortic repair : a case report.

This is a case report of a patient with a thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) presenting with dysphagia and weight loss as primary symptoms. She was treated via thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). The procedure was complicated with a secondary aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) for which open surgical repair of the esophageal defect was done.

Early versus late parenteral nutrition in ICU patients: cost analysis of the EPaNIC trial.

Introduction: The EPaNIC randomized controlled multicentre trial showed that postponing initiation of parenteral nutrition (PN) in ICU-patients to beyond the first week (Late-PN) enhanced recovery, as compared with Early-PN. This was mediated by fewer infections, accelerated recovery from organ failure and reduced duration of hospitalization. Now, the trial's preplanned cost analysis (N = 4640) from the Belgian healthcare payers' perspective is reported.

Acute kidney injury after use of oral Fleet Phospho Soda as bowel preparation for colonoscopy.

We present a case of a 64-year old woman who developed acute kidney injury (AKI) finally resulting in stage 4 chronic kidney disease after ingestion of a high phosphate containing solution (oral Fleet Phospho Soda) as bowel cleansing for colonoscopy.
