Premise: Up to half of tropical forest plant species grow on other plants. Lacking access to soils, vascular epiphytes have unique adaptations for mineral nutrition. Among the most distinctive is the tank growth form of certain large bromeliads, which absorb nutrients that are cycled by complex microbial communities in water trapped among their overlapping leaf bases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAggression is a transdiagnostic behavior that is associated with poor clinical outcomes. As such, it is important to understand factors that contribute to various manifestations of aggressive behavior. Recent research has revealed a subtype of individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) who tend to display relatively high amounts of aggression and experience more severe social anxiety and dysfunction compared to individuals in the prototypical SAD group.

To publicize the availability of HIVSTs to priority audiences, particularly those disproportionately affected by HIV, CDC promoted this program through established partnerships and tailored resources from its Let's Stop HIV Together social marketing campaign. The online portal launched March 14, 2023, and through March 13, 2024, distributed 443,813 tests to 219,360 persons.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAgriculture can be a contributor of pollutants, including pesticides and excess sediment, to aquatic environments. However, side-inlet vegetated filter strips (VFSs), which are planted around the upstream side of culverts draining agricultural fields, may provide reductions in pesticide and sediment losses from agricultural fields, and have the additional benefit of removing less land from production than traditional VFS. In this study, reductions of runoff, the soluble pesticide acetochlor, and total suspended solids were estimated using a paired watershed field study and coupled PRZM/VFSMOD modeling for two treatment watersheds with source to buffer area ratios (SBAR) of 80:1 (SI-A) and 481:1 (SI-B).
