Accuracy, inter- and intrarater reliability, and user-experience of high tibial osteotomy angle measurements for preoperative planning: manual planning PACS versus semi-automatic software programs.

Purpose: To compare the accuracy, inter- and intrarater reliability, and user-experience of manual and semi-automatic preoperative leg-alignment measurement planning software for high tibial osteotomy (HTO).

Methods: Thirty patients (31 lower limbs) who underwent a medial opening wedge HTO between 2017 and 2019 were retrospectively included. The mechanical lateral distal femur angle (mLDFA), mechanical medial proximal tibial angle (mMPTA), and planned correction angle were measured on preoperative long-leg full weight-bearing radiographs utilising PACS Jivex Review® v5.

[Indications for antibiotic prophylaxis in patients with a prosthetic joint].

Under certain circumstances, patients with a prosthetic joint and a focal infection elsewhere in the body may be at risk of developing bacterial infection of the prosthesis. Patients and physicians should actively prevent infections that can spread systemically. Routine antibiotic prophylaxis is not recommended for all patients with a prosthetic joint and suspected bacteraemia.

[Gouty arthritis in a total knee prosthesis].

This article describes a 69-year-old man with a bilateral total knee prosthesis in whom both knees were swollen and painful. Fever was present and the levels of inflammation markers were markedly elevated. Gout was diagnosed in the right knee and haemarthros during calcium carbasalate use in the left knee.
