Intercellular communication via extracellular vesicles (EVs) has been identified as a vital component of a steadily expanding number of physiological and pathological processes. To accommodate these roles, EVs have highly heterogeneous molecular compositions. Given that surface molecules on EVs determine their interactions with their environment, EV functionality likely differs between subpopulations with varying surface compositions.

There is solid consensus among physicists and philosophers that, in gauge field theory, for a quantity to be physically meaningful or real, it must be gauge-invariant. Yet, every "elementary" field in the Standard Model of particle physics is actually gauge-variant. This has led a number of researchers to insist that new manifestly gauge-invariant approaches must be established.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has revolutionized heart failure (HF) management, offering benefits in morbidity, mortality, and symptom alleviation. However, optimal response rates are not universally achieved, necessitating enhanced patient-selection strategies. Myocardial scar patterns, quantified by delayed-enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (DE-CMR), have been implicated in CRT outcomes.

The master regulator of the DNA damage response, the transcription factor p53, orchestrates multiple downstream responses and coordinates repair processes. In response to double-strand DNA breaks, p53 exhibits pulses of expression, but how it achieves temporal coordination of downstream responses remains unclear. Here, we show that p53's posttranslational modification state is altered between its first and second pulses of expression.
