Influenza A virus infections are known to predispose infected individuals to bacterial infections of the respiratory tract that result in co-infection with severe disease outcomes. Co-infections involving influenza A viruses and streptococcus bacteria result in protein-protein interactions that can alter disease outcomes, promoting bacterial colonisation, immune evasion, and tissue damage. Focusing on the synergistic effects of proteins from different pathogens during co-infection, this scoping review evaluated evidence for protein-protein interactions between influenza A virus proteins and streptococcus bacterial proteins.

Objectives: To determine rates of fluoride varnish (FV) application at a tertiary care center between 2018 and 2021 and factors associated with receipt of FV application in the medical setting.

Design: A retrospective chart review and case-control study, matching children who had received FV application and those who had not during a well-child examination, were conducted.

Measures: Current Procedural and Dental Terminology and International Classification of Diseases codes from an electronic medical record were used to determine the rates of FV application.

Equine influenza (EI) is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease of wild and domesticated horses, donkeys, mules, and other Equidae. EI is caused by the Equine Influenza virus (EIV), is endemic in many countries and outbreaks still have a severe impact on the equine industry globally. Conventional EI vaccines are widely used, but a need exists for a platform that facilitates prompt manufacturing of a highly immunogenic, antigenically matched, updated vaccine product.

Periodontal disease (PD), a widespread non-communicable disease, affects over 90% of the global population with no known cure. Current management strategies focus on the stabilisation of disease progression, which is successfully achieved to a limited extent. Yet the never-ending battle between bacteria and the gingiva involves a complex interplay between genetic, microbial and environmental factors, demanding innovative approaches to improve the prevention and stabilisation of this disease.

Introduction: Community advisory boards (CABs) are a promising approach for strengthening patient and partner voices in community health center (CHC) evidence-based decision-making. This paper aims to describe how CHCs used CABs during the COVID-19 pandemic to improve the reach of testing among populations experiencing health disparities and identify transferable lessons for future implementation.

Methods: This mixed methods study integrates brief quantitative surveys of community engagement ( = 20) and one-on-one qualitative interviews ( = 13) of staff and community partners engaged in CHC CABs with a cost analysis and qualitative feedback from CHC staff participating in an online learning community ( = 17).
