Background: Patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and severe (stage IV) duodenal polyposis are candidates for pancreaticoduodenectomy, which has high morbidity. Little information is available about the feasibility of therapeutic endoscopy for these patients.
Objective: To evaluate the long-term efficiency and risks of endoscopic therapy.
Purpose: To describe retrospectively the overall survival, the cancer specific survival and the tumor control in an homogeneous series of patients with epidermoid carcinoma of the anal canal treated with definitive radiotherapy; to assess the impact of brachytherapy, chemotherapy and pre-radiotherapy resection on the risk of recurrence.
Patients And Methods: From 1997 to 2007, 57 patients (pts) presenting with an epidermoid carcinoma of the anal canal (T1: 14, T2: 33, T3-4: 10, N0: 31, N1: 19, N2: 3, N3: 4, M0: 57) were treated with definitive radiotherapy by the same radiation oncologist. The treatment included an external beam irradiation (EBRT) given to the posterior pelvis (45Gy/25 fractions) and, six weeks later, a boost delivered with interstitial brachytherapy (37/57) or external beam irradiation (20/57).
Purpose: Transrectal ultrasonography is considered the best method to stage rectal cancer, and thus the need for preoperative radiotherapy. This retrospective study was designed to determine the prognostic value of uTN classification on survival of patients treated by preoperative radiotherapy and surgery.
Methods: A total of 218 patients with proven rectal adenocarcinoma were staged by transrectal ultrasonography before treatment.
Objective: To know whether the therapeutic protocol applied in the case of severe acute ulcerative colitis (UC) associating ciclosporine and azathioprine was also effective in the case of moderate chronic active ulcerative colitis (UC).
Subjects And Methods: in this retrospective study 10 patients (31-65 years, 6 distal colitis, 1 left colitis, 3 pancolitis) moderately active and corticosteroid-resistant or dependent were included. Patients received ciclosporine intraveinously (4 mg/kg/d) and were evaluated 10 days later.

Purpose: Chronic radiation proctitis, a well described complication of pelvic radiation therapy, can result in severe bleeding that is refractory to conventional treatment. Argon plasma coagulation is an effective treatment for hemorrhagic lesions of the gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of argon plasma coagulation in the management of severe radiation proctitis resistant to medical treatment.
