Late erosion of an Adjustable Transobturator Male System (ATOMS) device.

Introduction: This report describes late erosion of an Adjustable Transobturator Male System device which was inserted for post-prostatectomy incontinence. The Adjustable Transobturator Male System device eroded the bulbar urethra 5 years post insertion, despite initial improvement of symptoms.

Case Presentation: Following an open radical retropubic prostatectomy, a 64 year-old male patient developed post-prostatectomy incontinence.

The use of aspirin as venous thromboembolism (VTE) chemoprophylaxis following elective arthroplasty has been debated between the orthopedic and cardiac fields. The purpose of this study was to apply both the FI and FQ to evaluate the degree of statistical fragility in the total joint arthroplasty (TJA) literature regarding aspirin (ASA) use for VTE prevention.

Background: Being unhoused can increase vulnerability to adverse health effects due to air pollution. We aimed to quantify changes in emergency-department visits during and after exposure to wildfire-specific and non-wildfire particulate matter 2·5 μm or less in diameter (PM) in San Diego County (CA, USA) in people who were both unhoused and housed.

Methods: For this time-stratified case-crossover study, we used data on exposure to wildfire-specific PM in California and individual-level data for people admitted to the emergency departments of two hospitals (UC San Diego Health emergency departments at La Jolla and Hillcrest, San Diego) in San Diego County between July 1, 2012, and Dec 31, 2020.

Background Metal-on-metal (MoM) bearing surfaces have been implicated as a cause of increased complication rates in total hip arthroplasty (THA), with local and systemic reactions identified. These reactions may cause abnormal laboratory results in common tests that are used to diagnose periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the utility of common laboratory studies in the diagnosis of PJI in patients undergoing revision THA with MoM bearings.
