Article Synopsis
  • A study assessed the prevalence and severity of exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH) in 2-year-old Thoroughbred racehorses, focusing on how it relates to performance factors like speed index and race conditions.
  • Out of 830 horses examined, 74% exhibited EIPH, with 8% showing severe cases (grade ≥3), influencing their race performance negatively.
  • The study found that mandatory postrace examinations reduced EIPH severity, and administering furosemide before races lowered both the likelihood and severity of EIPH in horses when participation was not mandatory.

Sands from beach showers across all three islands had a mean concentration of 5619 ng/g of oxybenzone with the highest concentration of 34,518 ng/g of oxybenzone at a beach shower in the Waikiki area of Honolulu.
