As the first study examining health department (HD) workforce development plans (WDPs), this study presents gaps and strategies identified in WDPs across 201 accredited HDs (168 initial/33 reaccreditation plans).
Design: This cross-sectional study employed qualitative review and content analysis of WDPs submitted to the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) between March 2016 and November 2021.
Background: Tobacco screening interventions have demonstrated effectiveness at improving population health, yet many people who want to quit using tobacco lack access to professional assistance. One way to address this gap is to train members of the clinical team as tobacco treatment specialists (TTSs).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand how TTSs have been used across a variety of health care organizations implementing health systems change for tobacco treatment and examine the sustainability of TTSs as a health systems change innovation for tobacco cessation.
Objective: The objective of this paper is to provide empirical guidance by comparing the performance of six different area-level SDoH measurement approaches in predicting patient referral to a social worker and hospital admission after a primary care visit.
Methods: We compared the performance of six area-level SDoH measurement approaches in predicting patient referral to a social worker and hospital admission after a primary care visit using random forest classification algorithm. Data came from 209,605 patient encounters at a federally qualified health center.
Assessments of watershed-based restoration efforts are rare but are essential for the science of stream restoration to advance. We conducted a watershed scale assessment of Abram Creek before and after implementation of a watershed-based plan designed to maximize ecological recovery from acid mine drainage (AMD) impairment. We surveyed water chemistry, physical habitat, benthic macroinvertebrates, and fish community structure in three stream types: AMD-impacted (14 streams), AMD-treated (13 streams), and unimpaired reference (4 streams).
