The pseudo-octahedral molybdenum benzylidyne complex [TolC≡Mo(ONO)(OR)]·KOR (R = CCH3(CF3)2) 1, featuring a stabilizing ONO pincer ligand, initiates the controlled living polymerization of strained dibenzocyclooctynes at T > 60 °C to give high molecular weight polymers with exceptionally low polydispersities (PDI ∼ 1.02). Kinetic analyses reveal that the growing polymer chain attached to the propagating catalyst efficiently limits the rate of propagation with respect to the rate of initiation (kp/ki ∼ 10(-3)).

Background: With various methods, secretory immunoglobulin M (sIgM) was assessed in tears of patients with rhino-conjunctivitis.

Methods: Tears were analyzed by microimmunoelectrophoresis (MIE), size-exclusion high-pressure liquid chromatography (SE-HPLC), sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing.

Results: Only very small traces of serum IgM could be found in tears of healthy volunteers.

Topographic studies of crystalline fractions from different morphological layers of the young adult bovine lens were conducted. Crystallin profiles were obtained for each lens layer, using thin-layer isoelectric focusing in polyacrylamide gel (IEF). Water soluble (WS) crystallins from the lens equator revealed a separation into HM (high molecular weight) alpha(L)-, beta(H)-, beta(L)-, beta(S)-, and gamma-crystallins.

The water-binding properties of bovine lens alpha-crystallin, collagen from calf skin and bovine serum albumin (BSA), were investigated with various techniques. The water absorptive capacity was obtained in high vacuum desorption experiments volumetrically, and also gravimetrically in controlled atmosphere experiments. NMR spin-echo technique was used to study the hydration of protein samples and to determine the spin-spin relaxation times (T2) from the protons of water, absorbed on the proteins.
