Heavy metal contamination is an increasing global threat to human and environmental health, particularly in resource-limited areas. Traditional platforms for heavy metal detection are labor intensive and expensive and require lab facilities. While paper-based colorimetric sensors offer a simpler approach, their sensitivity limitations prevent them from meeting legislative requirements for many metals.

In infants and children, bacterial meningitis caused by anaerobic bacteria is rare. However, a serious infection with the anaerobe can occur in previously healthy children with a peak incidence in preschool children and in adolescents. As the clinical presentation can be very similar to meningitis caused by aerobic bacteria, one should consider as the causative agent when preceded by or associated with otitis media with purulent otorrhea or mastoiditis, in combination with minimal or no improvement on empiric antibiotic treatment.

This article discusses the observations and interventions during an episode of assay instability on an Abbott Architect routine chemistry analyser. The Levey-Jennings plot of QC data showed a circadian pattern, having an overestimation of total CO during periods of high personnel attendance.
