ABO Blood Type and Urinary Bladder Cancer: Phenotype, Genotype, Allelic Association with a Clinical or Histological Stage and Recurrence Rate.

 Previous research on connection between the ABO blood group and bladder cancer has been based on determining the ABO phenotype. This specific research is extended to the molecular level, providing more information about particular ABO alleles.  To investigate the impact of the ABO blood group genotype or phenotype as a risk factor for urinary bladder cancer.

IMPACT OF AIR TRANSPORT ON BLOOD SAMPLE QUALITY.

The aim of this study was to establish the impact of air transport on blood samples packaged with and without cooling elements and effect of outdoor temperature on sample quality. Venous samples from 38 blood donors in winter and 36 in summer were tested for hemolysis and complete blood count. One tube subject was kept in controlled conditions at +4 °C.

Risk of new alloimmunization in patients on anti-CD38 treatment using tube LISS-IAT method.

Background: Daratumumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets CD38, a transmembrane protein expressed on many cells including RBCs and to a greater extent on myeloma cells. It has been used for treatment of multiple myeloma and autoimmune diseases. Transfusion management of patients on such therapy can be challenging as these drugs cross-react with RBC surface antigens and cause panreactivity.

Platelet Serotonin (5-HT) Concentration, Platelet Monoamine Oxidase B (MAO-B) Activity and , , and Gene Polymorphisms in Asthma.

The complex role of the serotonin system in respiratory function and inflammatory diseases such as asthma is unclear. Our study investigated platelet serotonin (5-HT) levels and platelet monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity, as well as associations with (rs6314; rs6313) (rs3813929; rs518147), and (rs1799836; rs6651806) gene polymorphisms in 120 healthy individuals and 120 asthma patients of different severity and phenotypes. Platelet 5-HT concentration was significantly lower, while platelet MAO-B activity was considerably higher in asthma patients; however, they did not differ between patients with different asthma severity or phenotypes.

Prevalence of HEV RNA in Croatian blood donors.

Objectives: HEV infection is asymptomatic for immunocompetent blood donors (BD). Transfused HEV-infected blood products may cause potentially hazardous HEV infection in immunocompromised patients. Evaluation of the need for routine BD HEV RNA screening primarily demands the establishment of HEV infection prevalence in Croatian BD.
