Correlation of HSP110 expression with all-trans retinoic acid-induced apoptosis.

In a previous study, we observed the strong expression of a stress protein of the HSP100/Clp family (HSP110) in apoptotic mesectodermal cells during early mouse facial development. In the present study, we describe the strong expression of the same HSP110 in mesectodermal cells undergoing apoptosis after all-trans retinoic acid (RA) administration. We used a teratological model known to increase cell deaths mainly in the first and second branchial arches during mammalian cephalogenesis: the treatment of E9 mouse embryos with all-trans RA, which results in craniofacial malformations comparable to those that characterize mandibulofacial dysostosis in man.

Abnormal cutaneous nerve outgrowth: a secondary effect of methyl triazene teratology in developing mouse limb buds.

The cutaneous branches originating from the superficial distal division of the ulnar nerve exhibit abnormal developmental features in 70.2% of the forelimb buds from embryos submitted 2 or 3 days earlier to methyl triazene administered to their pregnant mother. Nerve growth factor in the developing craniofacial region of the mouse embryo.

Nerve growth factor (NGF), demonstrated by immunohistochemistry, appears during craniofacial development of the mouse in several embryonic tissues. First, NGF is present in the neural and placodic tissues of early embryos. At later stages, NGF staining appears in premuscular and precartilaginous blastemata, as well as in the tooth germs.
