Unscheduled R-loops usually cause DNA damage and replication stress, and are therefore a major threat to genome stability. Several RNA processing factors, including the conserved THO complex and its associated RNA and DNA-RNA helicase UAP56, prevent R-loop accumulation in cells. Here, we investigate the function of ALYREF, an RNA export adapter associated with UAP56 and the THO complex, in R-loop regulation.

The tropism of adenoviruses (Ads) is significantly influenced by the binding of various blood factors. To investigate differences in their binding, we conducted cryo-EM analysis on complexes of several human adenoviruses with human platelet factor-4 (PF4), coagulation factors FII (Prothrombin), and FX. While we observed EM densities for FII and FX bound to all the species-C adenoviruses examined, no densities were seen for PF4, even though PF4 can co-pellet with various Ads.

Article Synopsis
  • - Levamisole is an immunomodulator used effectively to treat nephrotic syndrome due to its ability to stimulate the immune system and reduce the need for steroids.
  • - While commonly associated with gastrointestinal symptoms and fever, levamisole can also cause serious side effects like agranulocytosis and pancytopenia.
  • - A case report highlights a 5-year-old girl with steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome who experienced declining leukocyte counts after starting levamisole, stressing the importance of monitoring for this rare but serious complication.

Introduction: The Monteggia equivalent type 1b fracture, consisting of an ulnar shaft fracture and radial head dislocation, is a rare condition first described by Giovanni Battista Monteggia. The Metaizeau technique, emphasizing percutaneous intramedullary fixation to preserve bone healing and prevent growth plate damage, has gained prominence in managing these fractures.

Case Report: A 10-year-old boy presented with left forearm pain, swelling, and deformity following a fall while playing football.

Metastasis of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is a rare cause of cardiac metastatic tumors (CMT). We present a case of NSCLC infiltrating the apical left ventricle mimicking cardiac aneurysm and tamponade. The patient, who had a history of NSCLC, presented with acute shortness of breath and an echocardiogram concerning for ruptured left ventricular aneurysm.
