Radar-Sounding Characterization of the Subglacial Groundwater Table Beneath Hiawatha Glacier, Greenland.

Radar-sounding surveys associated with the discovery of a large impact crater beneath Hiawatha Glacier, Greenland, revealed bright, flat subglacial reflections hypothesized to originate from a subglacial groundwater table. We test this hypothesis using radiometric and hydrologic analysis of those radar data. The dielectric loss between the reflection from the top of the basal layer and subglacial reflection and their reflectivity difference represent dual constraints upon the complex permittivity of the basal material.

Physiotherapy in Haiti: A qualitative study exploring local clinicians' perspectives.

Background And Purpose: The physiotherapy profession in Haiti has seen many changes since the earthquake in 2010, due to the increased number of Haitians living with permanent impairments. The earthquake sparked a significant humanitarian response. Research shows that the response focused mainly on providing short-term rehabilitation services without sustained efforts to develop sustainable rehabilitation services.

Teaching and Assessing Advocacy in Canadian Physiotherapy Programmes.

Advocacy is an essential component of physiotherapy (PT) practice. As a result, universities are expected to teach and assess advocacy-related competencies in their curriculum. The purpose of this study was to explore current educational practices for teaching and assessing advocacy in Canadian PT programmes, barriers to teaching and assessment, and solutions for enhancing educational practices.

Pre-Departure Training for Student Global Health Experiences: A Scoping Review.

The authors identify the recommended pre-departure training (PDT) practices for physiotherapy students participating in a global health experience (GHE): both the content to be covered and the preferred learning methods to be used. They also discuss the implications of these recommendations for the physiotherapy field. A scoping review of scientific and grey literature was performed to identify the recommended PDT practices.

How are Canadian universities training and supporting undergraduate medical, physiotherapy and occupational therapy students for global health experiences in international low-resource settings?

Objectives: Canadian medical (MD), physiotherapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) students increasingly show an interest in global health experiences (GHEs). As certain moral hazards can occur as a result of student GHEs, a growing consensus exists that universities must have an established selection process, in-depth pre-departure training (PDT), adequate onsite supervision and formal debriefing for their students. This study aimed to identify current practices in Canadian MD, PT and OT programs and discuss areas for improvement by comparing them with recommendations found in the literature.
