  • - Out of the 16 eligible patients, the majority had healed capitate fractures with one case showing signs of osteoarthritis, although it did not cause any symptoms; none showed signs of avascular necrosis.
  • - Functional assessments revealed minimal impairments, with patients reporting good hand function, normal wrist movement, and strength, indicating a low risk of developing posttraumatic arthritis in the surrounding joints.

Background: Symptomatic osteoarthritis of the basal joint of the thumb (trapeziometacarpal joint) is a common disabling condition mainly affecting women. It is frequently treated with complete removal of the trapezium with or without soft-tissue interposition. There is limited evidence about whether removal of the trapezium affects stability of the wrist joint and increases the risk of developing wrist osteoarthritis.

Background: Distal radius fractures can adversely affect wrist function; for men with this fracture, the role played by fracture severity, age and osteoporosis on fracture outcome has not been sufficiently studied.

Objective: To describe patient-reported outcome and the association with bone integrity, fracture severity and future fracture risk among young and older men with distal radius fracture.

Methods: This prospective study includes 133 men with acute distal radius fracture, mean age 54 (range 21-88), who were followed for 12 months.

 Magnetic resonance (MR) is the most important imaging technique to assess intra-articular pathology of the wrist. Among various MR imaging protocols, the diagnostic performance of indirect MR arthrography needs further investigation.  The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic performance of pre- and postcontrast, 3 T indirect MR arthrography in the diagnosis of scapholunate intrinsic ligament (SLIL) and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries, using wrist arthroscopy as reference standard.
