Background: The ovarian cancer (OC) preclinical detectable phase (PCDP), defined as the interval during which cancer is detectable prior to clinical diagnosis, remains poorly characterised. We report exploratory analyses from the United Kingdom Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS).

Methods: In UKCTOCS between Apr-2001 and Sep-2005, 101,314 postmenopausal women were randomised to no screening (NS) and 50,625 to annual multimodal screening (MMS) (until Dec-2011) using serum CA-125 interpreted by the Risk of Ovarian Cancer Algorithm (ROCA).

Article Synopsis
  • - Tubo-ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) is a highly lethal form of cancer that often responds to platinum-based chemotherapy due to common issues with DNA damage repair pathways.
  • - Current mechanisms behind platinum resistance in HGSC are complex and not well understood, leading to a lack of effective biomarkers or treatments to improve patient outcomes.
  • - The study uses advanced single-cell mass cytometry to analyze protein responses in HGSC cells, identifying eight specific protein modules linked to carboplatin resistance and sensitivity, which could help in better categorizing and treating drug resistance in patients.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are widely used commercial additives, but their environmental persistence and toxicity raise serious concerns necessitating associated remediation strategies. Although there are various existing technologies for OPE removal, comprehensive screening for them is urgently needed to guide further research. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the techniques used to remove OPEs from soil and water, including their related influencing factors, removal mechanisms/degradation pathways, and practical applications.

A heterogeneous catalyst was prepared by anchoring spinel cobalt ferrite nanoparticles on porous activated carbon (SCF@AC). The catalyst was tested to activate hydrogen peroxide (HP) in the Fenton degradation of metronidazole (MTZ). SCF nanoparticles were produced through the co-precipitation of iron and cobalt metal salts in an alkaline condition.

We assembled the first gridded burned area (BA) database of national wildfire data (ONFIRE), a comprehensive and integrated resource for researchers, non-government organisations, and government agencies analysing wildfires in various regions of the Earth. We extracted and harmonised records from different regions and sources using open and reproducible methods, providing data in a common framework for the whole period available (starting from 1950 in Australia, 1959 in Canada, 1985 in Chile, 1980 in Europe, and 1984 in the United States) up to 2021 on a common 1° × 1° grid. The data originate from national agencies (often, ground mapping), thus representing the best local expert knowledge.
