Traditional wastewater treatment often fails to remove pharmaceuticals, necessitating advanced solutions, such as TiO photocatalysis, for post-treatment. However, conventionally applied powder TiO can be cumbersome to separate from treated water. To solve this issue, this study immobilized three TiO photocatalysts (Anatase 16, Anatase 5, and P25) into porous layers and evaluated their efficacy for the degradation of three pharmaceuticals (naproxen, NPX; sulfamethoxazole, SMX; metformin, MTF) in standard solutions and greywater pretreated in a membrane bioreactor (MBR).

Aromatic azo compounds stand as a highly sought-after class of substances owing to their extensive array of applications across various fields. Despite their significance, their synthesis often presents challenges, requiring either multistep reactions or being restricted to specific substrate types. In this study, we are showing the universality and mechanistic aspects of a one-step approach for synthesis of nonsymmetrical azoarenes via the Buchwald-Hartwig amination reaction of (pseudo)haloaromatics with arylhydrazines, conducted in the presence of atmospheric oxygen.

The new chiral ligands based on derivatives of imidazolidin-4-one were synthesised and characterised. The catalytic activity and enantioselectivity of their corresponding copper(II) complexes were studied in asymmetric Henry reactions. It was found that the enantioselectivity of these catalysts is overall very high and depends on the relative configuration of the ligand used; configuration of ligand affords the nitroaldols with major enantiomer (up to 97% ee), whereas the application of ligands with -configuration led to nitroaldols with major -enantiomer (up to 96% ee).

The early detection of upcoming disease outbreaks is essential to avoid both health and economic damage. The last four years of COVID-19 pandemic have proven wastewater-based epidemiology is a reliable system for monitoring the spread of SARS-CoV-2, a causative agent of COVID-19, in an urban population. As this monitoring enables the identification of the prevalence of spreading variants of SARS-CoV-2, it could provide a critical tool in the fight against this viral disease.
