Several clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of the NMDA antagonist memantine in moderately severe to severe Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. A 28-week pharmacoeconomic study conducted in the US also showed a reduction of total healthcare costs and informal care compared to placebo. Long-term implications of memantine treatment were modelled in the UK and Finland and revealed reductions in dependency, institutionalization and costs.

The tolerability and safety of ebrotidine (N-[(E)-[[2-[[[2-[(diaminomethylene)amino]-4-thiazolyl]methyl] thio]ethyl]amino]methylene]-4-bromo-benzenesulfonamide, CAS 100981-43-9, FI-3542) and its basic pharmacokinetic parameters were determined after its oral administration to healthy volunteers. Sixteen subjects were selected to participate in two different studies: an increasing single dose study to determine the maximal tolerated dose (from 25 to 1600 mg), and a multiple dose study (stepped doses from 400 to 1600 mg daily for 12 days). The results of the studies showed that ebrotidine has a good tolerability.

Purpose: The influence of some technical and biological parameters on the genetic characteristics of embryos derived from in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques was studied.
Method: Using a murine model, we assessed the effect of gamete manipulation, gamete maturation stage, and maternal age on the chromosome complements of first-cleavage embryos.
Results And Conclusions: We found a positive correlation between some of these parameters and the incidence of the different chromosome abnormalities studied.
