Dramatic Increase in Incidence of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease (1988-2011): A Population-Based Study of French Adolescents.

Objectives: Few data are available to describe the changes in incidence of pediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of this study was to describe changes in incidence and phenotypic presentation of pediatric-onset IBD in northern France during a 24-year period.

Methods: Pediatric-onset IBD (<17 years) was issued from a population-based IBD study in France between 1988 and 2011.

[Proton pump inhibitors: Real indication or trivialized prescription?].

Purpose: Protons Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) are widely used in France. The aim of our study was to determine the rate of exposure to PPIs in old patients and to assess the appropriateness of their prescription according to French guidelines.

Methods: We performed a descriptive study from 1st June to 30th August 2016, including all patients admitted in the department of geriatric post emergency of the university hospital of Toulouse with a prescription of PPI.

What Is Known And Objective: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) proteins are involved in the regulation of vascular endothelium, and their inhibition led to the development of a number of drugs used for malignancies or exudative neo-vascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Case Summary: We report a case of ischemic stroke in an 87-year-old woman having received intravitreal aflibercept, a new anti-VEGF for AMD. She had been treated with ranibizumab since 2007.

Bacteremia in patients receiving TNF-alpha antagonists--a prospective multicenter study.

Objective: TNF-alpha antagonists have changed the outcome of various chronic inflammatory diseases. Their use has spread widely and many patients receive those treatments for years. Previous reports found that the use of TNF-alpha antagonists may be associated with an increased risk of serious bacterial infections.

Diagnostic accuracy of ACR/EULAR 2010 criteria for rheumatoid arthritis in a 2-year cohort.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the 2010 American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatism (ACR/EULAR) and 1987 ACR criteria for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and the respective role of the algorithm and scoring of the ACR/EULAR.

Methods: In total, 270 patients with recent-onset arthritis of < 1 year duration were included prospectively between 1995 and 1997 and followed for 2 years. RA was defined as the combination, at completion of followup, of RA diagnosed by an office-based rheumatologist and treatment with a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug or glucocorticoid.
