The increasing prevalence of array-based comparative genomic hybridization in the clinical laboratory necessitates the implementation of quality control measures to attain accurate results with a high level of confidence. Environmental ozone is present in all industrialized cities and has been found to be detrimental to array data even at levels considered acceptable by US Environmental Protection Agency standards. In this study, we characterized the effect of ozone on microarray data on three different labeling platforms that use different fluorescent dyes (Cy3 and Cy5, Alexa Fluor 555 and Alexa Fluor 647, and Alexa Fluor 3 and Alexa Fluor 5) that are commonly used in array-based comparative genomic hybridization.

Purpose: The purpose of this randomized clinical study was to test the efficacy of a resiliency training approach for people with diabetes who have previously received standard diabetes self-education.

Methods: A single-blinded, randomized design was employed with repeated measures (baseline, 3 months, 6 months) with 67 participants assigned to either treatment as usual (n = 37) or the resiliency classes (n = 30). Outcome variables included physiological measures (glycosylated hemoglobin, waist measurement, eating and exercise habits) and psychosocial measures (self-efficacy, locus of control, social support, and purpose in life).

Direct induction of vitellogenin production in cultured male amphibian hepatocytes by estradiol-17 beta has been accomplished. Liver cells were isolated from adult male bullfrogs by collagenase perfusion and maintained as monolayers in serum-free medium containing insulin and estradiol. Vitellogenin production was measured by direct immunoprecipitation from radioactively labeled secreted protein with a specific antiserum against vitellogenin.
