Actigraphy-based assessment of circadian rhythmicity and sleep in patients with Usher syndrome type 2a: A case-control study.

This study aimed to improve our understanding of sleep problems as a comorbidity of hereditary deaf-blindness due to Usher syndrome type 2a. Fifteen patients with Usher syndrome type 2a with a conclusive genetic diagnosis and 15 unaffected controls participated in comprehensive sleep and activity assessments for 2 weeks, using the MotionWatch 8 actigraph and consensus sleep diary. Various sleep parameters including sleep opportunity window, sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and self-reported sleep quality were analysed.

Body-size evolution in gastropods across the Plio-Pleistocene extinction in the western Atlantic.

The Plio-Pleistocene turnover event in the western Atlantic following the closure of the Central American Seaway involved high rates of extinction for both gastropod and bivalve molluscs. This extinction was associated with declining nutrient conditions and has been presumed to be associated with a decrease in molluscan body size. Previous work which has been concordant with this expectation, however, has either focused on bivalves or not considered the effects of the recovery post extinction.

University student perspectives on antimicrobial peptide use in farm animals.

Growing awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in livestock production has led to calls for the development of alternatives such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) that are also able to combat infectious diseases in farm animals. A critical step in the development of AMPs is to understand people's perspectives towards this technology to avoid misalignment with societal expectations. The aim of this study was to investigate university student perspectives of AMP applications in farm animals as alternatives to antibiotic use.

One Procedure Change Process, Two Interpretations: A Qualitative Exploration of Differences in User and Administrative Perceptions.

OCCUPATIONAL APPLICATIONSStandard operating procedures (SOPs) in complex industrial settings require a process for change management which can accommodate updates and adapt to changing tasks, roles, and tools. Interviews with users and administrators of SOPs in a large petrochemical company revealed contrasting perceptions of the procedural change process. Administrators (those who write or oversee the procedures, such as at the mid-level management level or "blunt end" of the process) perceived the change process as transparent, accessible, and encouraging for users of procedures at the sharp end, whereas users themselves perceived the process to be opaque and futile.

Properties and Processing of Aviation Exhaust Aerosol at Cruise Altitude Observed from the IAGOS-CARIBIC Flying Laboratory.

The characteristics of aviation-induced aerosol, its processing, and effects on cirrus clouds and climate are still associated with large uncertainties. Properties of aviation-induced aerosol, however, are crucially needed for the assessment of aviation's climate impacts today and in the future. We identified more than 1100 aircraft plume encounters during passenger aircraft flights of the IAGOS-CARIBIC Flying Laboratory from July 2018 to March 2020.
