Background: Telehealth has become increasingly essential in healthcare provision, also in the Prehospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS), where live video is implemented as a supplemental tool to assess and triage medical emergency calls. So far, using video for emergency calls seems beneficial for patient assessment and dispatcher-assisted first aid. However, the EMS dispatchers' experiences with and perceptions of using video during emergency calls are largely unexplored.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers wanted to see if taking selenium would help improve the quality of life for people with autoimmune thyroiditis.
  • They studied 412 patients over 12 months by giving some of them selenium and others a placebo (fake pill), but found that both groups felt similarly about their quality of life after a year.
  • Even though selenium lowered certain antibody levels in the blood, it didn't change how much medication the patients needed or make them feel any better than those who didn’t take it.

Preeclampsia is a worldwide contributor to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Women with preeclampsia are in a hyper-coagulable state with increased risk of thromboembolic disease later in life compared with normal pregnant women. The contact system (CAS) in plasma can mediate thrombin generation and is an important contributor to thrombus growth, but the activation of CAS during pregnancy complicated by preeclampsia is not yet elucidated, and CAS may play a role in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia.

Aims: Recent studies suggest that atrial fibrillation (AF) burden (time AF is present) is an independent risk factor for stroke. The aim of this trial was to study the feasibility and accuracy to identify AF episodes and quantify AF burden in patients with a known history of paroxysmal AF with a photoplethysmography (PPG)-based wearable.

Methods And Results: In this prospective, single-centre trial, the PPG-based estimation of AF burden was compared with measurements of a conventional 48 h Holter electrocardiogram (ECG), which served as the gold standard.
