Characterisation of precursory seismic activity towards early warning of landslides via semi-supervised learning.

This study demonstrates that machine learning from seismograms, obtained from commonly deployed seismometers, can identify the early stages of slope failure in the field. Landslide hazards negatively impact the economy and public through disruption, damage of infrastructure and even loss of life. Triggering factors leading to landslides are broadly understood, typically associated with rainfall, geological conditions and steep topography.

Long-Term Survival of Primary Intracranial Histiocytic Sarcoma Through Surgical Resection and Low-Dose CCNU.

A 5 yr old chihuahua presented to our clinic with a complaint of decreased activity and focal seizures. Based on the findings of MRI and computed tomography, a primary brain tumor originating from the right frontal lobe region was suspected. Surgical resection was performed, and a diagnosis of histiocytic sarcoma was made via histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining.

Chromosomal gain and mutations of gene in canine high-grade oligodendroglioma.

Canine high-grade oligodendrogliomas (HGOGs) exhibit a high expression of platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α (PDGFRA). We examined mutations and gain of and their association with the PDGFRA expression and proliferation of tumor cells in canine HGOG cases and cell lines. Polymerase chain reaction and sequence analysis revealed expected pathogenic mutations in exons 7 and 8 in 16/34 (47%) cases.

Clinical differentiation of cutaneous and subcutaneous mast cell tumors in dogs: A pilot study.

Background: Canine mast cell tumors (MCT) in the skin are classified into cutaneous MCT (cMCT) and subcutaneous MCT (scMCT) types, which exhibit different clinical behaviors. Although these types have been classified only by histology, preoperative differentiation is important for proper surgical planning.

Aim: To examine the accuracy of differentiating these types based on the gross features before surgery.

Should Mesh Plug Use Be Discontinued in Hernia Repair Practices?

Mesh plugs are commonly used in inguinal hernia repair due to their perceived efficacy in reducing recurrence rates. However, their use has been associated with significant complications, including mesh migration, chronic pain, infection, hernia recurrence, adhesions, and erosion into adjacent organs. This case series presents three patients who experienced complications from mesh plug migration post-hernia repair.
