We present a rare finding on lung ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) scintigraphy for a woman with longstanding dyspnea. CT of the chest showed volume loss on the right side, which raised concern about possible bronchiolitis obliterans or Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome; however, the right pulmonary artery could not be visualized. A subsequent V/Q scan showed absence of perfusion and decreased ventilation to the entire right lung, consistent with agenesis of the right pulmonary artery.

Background: Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) serve as a crucial model, representing epiblast cells derived from the inner cell mass of blastocyst-stage embryos. ESCs exhibit a unique combination of self-renewal potency, unlimited proliferation, and pluripotency. The latter is evident by the ability of the isolated cells to differentiate spontaneously into multiple cell lineages, representing the three primary embryonic germ layers.

Article Synopsis
  • Brentuximab vedotin (BV) is an anti-cancer drug approved for treating various lymphomas, known for being generally well-tolerated, but can cause rare side effects like lung toxicity.
  • A case study of a woman in her forties with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma revealed that she developed serious respiratory issues due to BV, confirmed to be BV-induced pneumonitis after ruling out other causes through tests.
  • Prompt recognition and treatment by discontinuing BV and using steroids led to a significant recovery, highlighting the need for doctors to be vigilant about this potential side effect in cancer patients.
