This study was performed during a 10-year period at several hospitalization centres from various districts in Slovenia and Croatia. The number of elderly patients, above 65 years, compared with the total number of inpatients in the aforementioned departments and clinics in the course of 10 years ranged from 12% to 25%. Keratodermia palmoplantaris of the Unna - Thost type was studied in the population of Slovenia. Altogether 157 patients were recorded: 106 were examined by the authors; for the other 51, anamnestic data were used. Special attention was paid to the accompanying symptoms which are more or less rarely mentioned in the literature: hyperkeratosis of the elbows and knees, transgredience of the hyperkeratosis, hyperkeratotic changes of the nails and changes of the teeth.

17 patients with palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) were detected among 48 investigated members of the clan O. 5 of these 17 patients had a well-expressed hyperkeratosis on their knees. In one family hyperkeratosis of the knees was inherited as a dominant feature, but in two other families it was not.

A case of xanthogranuloma juvenile (the small papular form) in a six month-old boy is presented. Only cutanous lesions are seen and the child is of good health. On the scalp, trunk and limbs there are 17 yellowish pea-sized papules.
