Botryosphaeria stem blight is a fungal disease of blueberry caused by members of the Botryosphaeriaceae family, which can lead to rapid wilting of leaves and stems, often resulting in significant yield loss and even plant death. Botryosphaeria stem blight is a major disease in Alabama, however, information on the distribution and causal pathogens for stem blight in Alabama is limited. This study surveyed blueberry farms in Alabama and nearby parts of Georgia and Mississippi to reveal the occurrence, species identities, and virulence of causal pathogens for Botryosphaeria stem blight.

Purpose: Surgical resident autonomy in procedures has been eroding over time, due to multiple factors that include duty hour restrictions, focus on operating time, complication rate, and trust among supervising physicians. This study examines whether urology residents at the Veterans Affairs hospitals (VA) have experienced decreased surgical autonomy and contributing factors.

Methods: The national VA Surgical Quality Improvement Program (VASQIP) was queried for the most common urologic procedures between 2004 to 2019 with resident involvement.

Background: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the emergency department (ED) involve dyspnea, cough, and chest discomfort; frequent exacerbations are associated with increased mortality and reduced quality of life. Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NiPPV) is commonly used to help relieve symptoms but is limited due to patient intolerance. We aimed to determine whether high-velocity nasal insufflation (HVNI) is noninferior to NiPPV in relieving dyspnea within 4 h in ED patients with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure.

Oxaliplatin is successfully used on advanced colorectal cancer to eradicate micro-metastasis, whereas its benefits in the early stages of colorectal cancer remains controversial since approximately 30% of patients experience unexpected relapses. Herein, we evaluate the efficacy of oxidative phosphorylation as a predictive biomarker of oxaliplatin response in colorectal cancer. We found that non-responding patients exhibit low oxidative phosphorylation activity, suggesting a poor prognosis.
