The explanatory power of silent comics: An assessment in the context of knowledge transfer and agricultural extension to rural communities in southwestern Madagascar.

The distribution of silent comic illustrations can facilitate the communication and transfer of scientific recommendations about sustainable land management (SLM) to local communities in countries where many people are illiterate. However, since there are cross-cultural differences in "visual languages", visualization styles need to be carefully selected as well as locals' comprehension of the illustrated recommendation evaluated systematically. Three agricultural recommendations were chosen for comic-style illustrations, distributed to six communities in the Mahafaly region of southwestern Madagascar and evaluated using a three-step, interdependent approach.

Effects of socio-economic household characteristics on traditional knowledge and usage of wild yams and medicinal plants in the Mahafaly region of south-western Madagascar.

Background: Rural households in the Mahafaly region of semi-arid SW-Madagascar strongly depend on the exploitation of natural resources for their basic needs and income regeneration. An overuse of such resources threatens the natural environment and people's livelihood. Our study focuses on the diversity and use of wild yams and medicinal plants.

[Lymph node supraclavicular metastasis of thymic carcinoma: an inaugural and unusual feature of a rare disease].

Among the epithelial tumours of the thymus, thymic carcinomas are rare, involving more aggressive locoregional behaviour and a poor prognosis. More than one-third of cases present lymph node metastasis during an evaluation of the extension of a primitive mediastinal tumour of thymic origin. The authors report an unusual case in a 46-year-old woman presenting a metastatic form.

[Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma: histopathologic features. A specific tumour].

The diffuse large B-cell lymphomas of the mediastinum were long considered to be a variant of the classic forms of large B-cell lymphomas. However, their clinical and radiological features and especially their histopathological variants point to other lymphoid tumours such as Hodgkin's disease or anaplastic lymphomas, thymic tumours, germ cell tumours or metastatic tumors. The immunohistochemical findings are of prime importance in the diagnosis.
