Background: The 2022 WHO guidelines on multi-drug/rifampicin resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) recommend six months of bedaquiline (Bdq) in the all-oral 9-month shorter regimen and six months or longer for Bdq and delamanid (Dlm) in the 18-20-month longer regimen. However, lack of evidence on extended treatment using Bdq or Dlm has limited their use to six months. We examine the frequency and incidence of QT prolongation based on duration of Bdq and/or Dlm use in longer regimens.

We have studied the interfacial properties of Zn vs selected transition metal cations such as Fe, Cu, and Cr in a water-ethanol mixture using field-induced droplet ionization. This was in particular inspired by the specific surface activity of Zn that has been observed on several occasions and a desire to clarify the root cause for this behavior. We have found that Zn, due to its unique electronic configuration and atomic size, is the only ion of those under study that gives rise to specific speciation at the air-liquid interface with three ethanol molecules attached to the central atom for optimal polarity.

In this study, we develop new reverse engineering (RE) techniques to identify the organization of the synaptic inputs generating firing patterns of populations of neurons. We tested these techniques in silico to allow rigorous evaluation of their effectiveness, using remarkably extensive parameter searches enabled by massively-parallel computation on supercomputers. We chose spinal motoneurons as our target neural system, since motoneurons process all motor commands and have well-established input-output properties.

Article Synopsis
  • - Perimenopause is considered a critical time for women's mental health, often leading to increased risk of mood and anxiety disorders due to various social and psychological factors.
  • - A review of 17 studies identified protective factors like social support and resiliency, as well as harmful factors including mental health history, stressful life events, and chronic stress, impacting depression and anxiety during this stage.
  • - Understanding these factors can help in early detection and the creation of tailored interventions for women experiencing mood and anxiety issues during perimenopause.

Introduction: We aimed to better understand longitudinal physical activity experiences among initially active adolescents and to identify and describe distinct physical activity profiles.

Methods: A sample of 23 physically active participants [52% female; mean age = 12.2 (0.
