Introduction: Oral melanocytic nevi (OMNs) are uncommon benign melanocytic tumors, histologically similar to their cutaneous counterparts. The aim of this study was twofold: to contribute to the epidemiology with a literature review with the first Spanish series of OMNs, and to report on clinicopathological, immunohistochemical and demographic findings.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of cases attended over the period 1999-2010 was carried out using data drawn from the pathology unit files at two public hospitals in the Spanish region of Andalusia, serving between them a population of 823.
We investigated the expression of P-glycoprotein (P-GP) and metallothionein (MT) in a series of 92 GIST and 14 gastrointestinal leiomyosarcomas (GILMS) with the purpose to expand our knowledge on the biological bases of GIST chemo-resistance and to ascertain their significance in patients' prognosis. P-GP expression was more frequent in GIST than in GI-LMS (83.7% vs.

A morphometric study utilizing the point counting method was carried out on bone marrow biopsies of 44 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in order to correlate the objective volume of the lymphocytic infiltration with the histologic patterns (nodular, interstitial, mixed and diffuse) and the clinical stages (A, B and C). The prognostic significance of isolated lymphocytic tumor cell burden was also analyzed. The results suggest that there is a significant correlation between the amount of tumoral lymphoid tissue (VL greater than 60% versus VL less than 60%) and the interstitial and diffuse histologic patterns, as well as with the clinical stages A and C.

The benign neoplasms develop generally from the ductal epithelium and may be cystic or mucinous, the last type suffering some times a malignant transformation. The malignant tumors are very common; histogenetically they may be ductal, acinar or of uncertain origin.
