Telomerase is reactivated by genomic TERT rearrangements in ~30% of diagnosed high-risk neuroblastomas. Dismal patient prognosis results if the RAS/MAPK/ALK signaling transduction network also harbors mutations. We present a liquid biopsy-based monitoring strategy for this particularly vulnerable pediatric patient subgroup, for whom real-time molecular diagnostic tools are limited to date.

In case of failure of a large, irreparable (nonprimary) OLT, osteochondral transplantation techniques may be recommended. Harvesting an osteochondral graft from the ipsilateral knee is most commonly used.

Understanding the cellular mechanisms behind diabetes-related cardiomyopathy is crucial as it is a common and deadly complication of diabetes mellitus. Dysregulation of the mitochondrial genome has been linked to diabetic cardiomyopathy and can be ameliorated by altering microRNA (miRNA) availability in the mitochondrion. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified to downregulate miRNAs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTraumatic brain injuries are extremely common, and although most patients recover from their injuries many TBI patients suffer prolonged symptoms and remain at a higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration. Moreover, it remains challenging to identify predictors of poor long-term outcomes. Here, we tested the hypothesis that preexisting cerebrovascular impairment exacerbates metabolic and vascular dysfunction and leads to worse outcomes after TBI.

Purpose: The present study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes and safety at a 1-year follow-up after 5 or 6 weeks of non-weight bearing after a Talar OsteoPeriostic grafting from the Iliac Crest (TOPIC) for a medial osteochondral lesion of the talus (OLT).
Methods: A retrospective comparative case-control analysis of prospectively followed patients who underwent a TOPIC procedure with medial malleolus osteotomy was performed. Patients were matched in two groups with either 5 or 6 weeks of non-weight bearing.
