Experiences of Simulated Phone Death Notification.

Background: Physicians perform many difficult skills, but notifying loved ones about the death of a family member is a particularly challenging skill that requires specific training. Descriptions of such training are lacking in the literature. We developed a formative standardised patient encounter on death notification over the telephone for fourth-year medical students and evaluated their qualitative perspectives, including emotional safety.

A Comparison Between In-Person and Virtual Communication Skills OSCE for Medical Students.

Objectives: This study investigates the effectiveness of a virtual format of an advanced communication skills observed structured clinical examination (OSCE) for senior medical students in comparison to an in-person format. The study also examines the emotional support students experience in the virtual setting. Our analysis was based on quantitative data collected through objective checklists and post-OSCE survey results.

Applying a validated scoring rubric to pre-clerkship medical students' standardized patient notes: a pilot study.

Background: With the elimination in 2021 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 2 Clinical Skills test, it is incumbent upon U.S. medical schools to develop local validated assessments of clinical reasoning.

Treating Children With Physical Disabilities: A Video-Based Educational Resource Using Simulated Participants.

Objectives: Children with physical disabilities (CWPD) have historically experienced inadequate and insensitive care across medical settings. A lack of comfort and knowledge about CWPD is prevalent among healthcare provider trainees. We developed a new, readily distributable educational resource about CWPD for healthcare students and conducted a study to determine its efficacy in improving their attitudes toward CWPD.
