Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 2 (TRAF2) is a key adaptor molecule in tumor necrosis factor receptor signaling complexes, facilitating downstream immune-related signaling cascades. This study aimed to elucidate its function in teleost fish by characterizing the TRAF2 homolog of the red-spotted grouper (Epinephelus akaara, EaTraf2). This advocacy statement endeavors to clarify the concept of the hymen as a symbol of "virginity." The anatomic variants of this structure precludes any correlation to prior sexual activity and the value of physical assessment of this structure is thus questioned. Moreover, physical examination of the hymen is painful, traumatic, and humiliating and is a form of gender-based violence.

Galectin 8 belongs to the tandem repeat subclass of the galectin superfamily. It possesses two homologous carbohydrate recognition domains linked by a short peptide and preferentially binds to β-galactoside-containing glycol-conjugates in a calcium-independent manner.
