Prospective study of the cementless "New Wave" total knee mobile-bearing arthroplasty: 8-year follow-up.

One of the main factors affecting the survival of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the fixation method. The constraints placed on the bone-implant interface of a mobile-bearing TKA must be taken in account during the design and evaluation phases. For more than two decades, calcium phosphate ceramics, particularly hydroxyapatitis, have been used in Europe to accelerate the bone integration of cementless implants.

Anisotropic turbulent spectra in the terrestrial magnetosheath as seen by the cluster spacecraft.

Here we report the first three-dimensional spatial spectrum of the low frequency magnetic turbulence obtained from the four Cluster spacecraft in the terrestrial magnetosheath close to the magnetopause. We show that the turbulence is compressible and dominated by mirror structures, its energy is injected at a large scale kp approximately 0.3 (l approximately 2000 km) via a mirror instability well predicted by linear theory, and cascades nonlinearly and unexpectedly up to kp approximately 3.

[Glomerulopathy and hypomelanosis of Ito].

Hypomelanosis of Ito is a rare neuroectodermal syndrome characterized by specific cutaneous lesions and frequent musculoskeletal or visceral involvement. We report on a child with an original nephritis with major segmental abnormalities of the glomerular basement membrane. Such an association might not be fortuitous and glomerular involvement might be underestimated in hypomelanosis of Ito.

[Byler's disease. Ultrastructural study. Apropos of a case in an infant].

A case of familial cholestasis with cirrhosis is described in a 8 months old boy, presenting with hepatosplenomegaly, portal hypertension, dramatic pruritus, and fluctuating icterus of early post-natal onset. Biological data include positive hepatocyte retention test, with mild hepatocyte cytolysis, without patent hepatocyte insufficiency. The discrepancy between the clinical symptoms and a slight elevation of bilirubin partially conjugated, the absence of elevated blood cholesterol, the absence of evidence of antigen or antibody of virus A or B, the marked elevation of blood biliary acid lead to the suspicion of Byler disease.

[A case of massive necrosis of the soft tissues surrounding a total knee prosthesis (author's transl)].

A single case of massive necrosis of soft tissues was seen one year after insertion of a total knee hinged prosthesis. The authors believe that this was due to hypersensitivity to Cobalt. The prosthesis had to be removed and the knee fused.
