Camouflaging in neurodivergent and neurotypical girls at the transition to adolescence and its relationship to mental health: A participatory methods research study.

Background: Adolescent girls with diagnoses of autism, ADHD and/or developmental coordination disorder (DCD) are at higher risk for mental health problems than boys with the same diagnoses and neurotypical girls. These girls are called neurodivergent here, though neurodivergence includes a broader range of diagnoses. One possible reason for this mental health disparity could be camouflaging, a coping strategy used more by girls.

Limiting pre-menstrual endometrial Hypoxia Inducible Factor 2 Alpha may fine-tune endometrial function at menstruation.

Context: Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is common and debilitating, but the precise endometrial mechanisms causing increased menstrual blood loss (MBL) remain undefined. We have previously identified a role for hypoxia in endometrial repair following progesterone withdrawal.

Objective: As hypoxia inducible factor 2 alpha (HIF2A) is known to alter vascular function in other tissues, we hypothesised that endometrial HIF2A is involved in pre-menstrual optimisation of endometrial function during the secretory phase to limit MBL.

COVID-19 and abnormal uterine bleeding: potential associations and mechanisms.

The impact of COVID-19 on menstruation has received a high level of public and media interest. Despite this, uncertainty exists about the advice that women and people who menstruate should receive in relation to the expected impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection, long COVID or COVID-19 vaccination on menstruation. Furthermore, the mechanisms leading to these reported menstrual changes are poorly understood.

Perimenopausal women's voices: How does their period at the end of reproductive life affect wellbeing?

Objective: To explore perimenopausal women's feelings towards their periods, the impact on their wellbeing and how we can support them.

Study Design: Participants were recruited for focus groups through social media advertisements. In 6 online focus groups, 31 perimenopausal women aged 40-55 living in the UK were asked 5 questions relating to periods and perimenopause, support and education.

Cyclic processes in the uterine tubes, endometrium, myometrium, and cervix: pathways and perturbations.

This review leads the 2023 Call for Papers in MHR: 'Cyclical function of the female reproductive tract' and will outline the complex and fascinating changes that take place in the reproductive tract during the menstrual cycle. We will also explore associated reproductive tract abnormalities that impact or are impacted by the menstrual cycle. Between menarche and menopause, women and people who menstruate living in high-income countries can expect to experience ∼450 menstrual cycles.
