The effect of concreteness training on peri-traumatic processing and intrusive memories following an analogue trauma.

High levels of rumination are a risk factor for developing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Theoretical models of rumination as well as earlier empirical findings suggest that the dysfunctional effects of rumination are due to an abstract processing style, and that a more concrete style of thinking has beneficial effects on mental well-being. The present study therefore examined whether concreteness training prior to watching a trauma film prevents analogue PTSD symptoms in the form of intrusive memories.

VCP/p97 (valosin containing protein) is a key regulator of cellular proteostasis. It orchestrates protein turnover and quality control in vivo, processes fundamental for proper cell function. In humans, mutations in VCP lead to severe myo- and neuro-degenerative disorders such as inclusion body myopathy with Paget disease of the bone and frontotemporal dementia (IBMPFD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or and hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP).

The cell polarity proteins Boi1p and Boi2p stimulate vesicle fusion at the plasma membrane of yeast cells.

Eukaryotic cells can direct secretion to defined regions of their plasma membrane. These regions are distinguished by an elaborate architecture of proteins and lipids that are specialized to capture and fuse post-Golgi vesicles. Here, we show that the proteins Boi1p and Boi2p are important elements of this area of active exocytosis at the tip of growing yeast cells.

[Therapy of acute respiratory distress syndrome : Survey of German ARDS centers and scientific evidence].

Background: In addition to specific treatment of the underlying cause, the therapy of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) consists of lung protective ventilation and a range of adjuvant and supportive measures.

Aim: A survey was conducted to determine the current treatment strategies for ARDS in German ARDS centers.

Material And Methods: The 39 centers listed in the German ARDS network in 2011 were asked to complete a questionnaire collecting data on the clinic, epidemiology as well as diagnostic and therapeutic measures regarding ARDS treatment.
